Biography of Yigong Shi
Dr. Yigong Shi is the president of Westlake University. He was born in China and received his undergraduate degree from Tsinghua University. He went on to earn his Ph.D. from Princeton University in Molecular Biology.
After completing his education, Dr. Shi held various positions at universities in the US and China, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Yale University. In 2011, he became the School of Life Sciences dean at Tsinghua University. In 2016, he was appointed as the president of Westlake University.
Under Dr. Shi’s leadership, Westlake University has become one of the leading research institutions in China. The university has also been ranked as one of the top 100 universities in Asia by Times Higher Education.

They are integrating structural biology, biochemistry, and biophysics to understand essential biological activities’ molecular and chemical underpinnings. They are particularly interested in the regulation of apoptosis, the assembly and dynamics of macromolecular machinery such as the spliceosome and proteasome, and the mechanism of regulated intramembrane proteolysis, with a particular emphasis on the structure and function of -secretase, a 4-component membrane complex linked to the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
